On Crete, usually all those who have vineyards are proud to make their own raki. For that, they go to the local raki distillery that should own the required license.
The Orthodox Easter is celebrated more exuberantly than other national holidays. Here in Agios Nikolaos thousands of people are gathering around the Voulismeni lake holding their lighted candles and waiting for Judas burning in the sound of the deafening fire works. After that, the candles should be brought home still lighted with the hope of having a good year.

Between December and February takes place the olive harvesting. Then nets are laid under the trees to collect the olives shaken off with special tools. In the past, they used to shake the olives with sticks and tree branches, a pretty hard labour for the Greek farmers…Nowadays, electrical devices make it easier. The Cretan olive oil is known to be one of the best in the world.
